Sandwichelemente werden vielfach als Bauelemente für das Dach und für Aussenwände eingesetzt, insbesondere bei Industrie- und Gewerbe- sowie Zweckbauten, wie z. B. bei Kühlhäusern, Mehrzweckarenen, weil Gebäude mit Baukonstruktionen aus leichten und vorgefertigten Bauelementen schnell und damit wirtschaftlich zu realisieren sind. Mit der Sandwichbauweise können jedoch erhebliche Brandschutzrisiken verbunden sein.
