As Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) Release 2.0 is deployed, Bellcore Client Companies (BCCs) can use the Embedded Operations Channel (EOC) in a standardized way for managing their networks. Two such management applications are software download and remote back up. Both of these applications can benefit from using file transfer capabilities. The TA states Bellcore's preliminary view of proposed generic requirements for SONET Network Elements supporting file transfer using the File Transfer Access and Management (FTAM) protocol.
