Diese Norm beschreibt ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung von Bestandteilen in Kunststoffen, die durch heisse organische Flüssigkeiten dicht unter ihren Siedetemperaturen extrahiert werden können. Für einen speziellen Fall ist ein sogenanntes Kalt-Extraktion-Verfahren angegeben. Die extrahierbaren Bestandteile können aus Monomeren, Oligomeren, Polymeren, Weichmachern, Stabilisatoren uam. bestehen. Die Art von und der Gehalt an extrahierbaren Bestandteilen hat Einfluss auf die Eigenschaften der Kunststoffe. Die Norm ist nicht anzuwenden für Kunststoffe, die mit Lebensmitteln oder Trinkwasser in Berührung kommen.
