This standard defines the engineering requirements, methods and procedures for the selection and use of materials and processes in the design and production of military aerospace weapons systems and associated support equipment. This document in conjunction with MIL-STD-1530, MIL-STD-1798, MIL-STD-3024, MIL-M-8856, MIL-HDBK-513 and MIL-STD-1568 provides the engineering basis for proper selection of materials and processes for reliable aerospace systems with consideration of acquisition and life cycle costs. Authority to deviate from the requirements in this standard requires approval from the cognizant engineering authority (CEA) of the procuring activity.
