Describes a file format (suitable for the retrieval and storage of picture description information) using an abstract syntax. The file format, provided by ISO 8632, consists of an ordered set of elements that can be used to describe pictures in a manner that is compatible between devices (of differing design and capabilities) and systems of different architectures.
