Diese Norm gilt für Aussenkabel mit Isolierhülle aus Papier für Fernmelde- und Informationsverarbeitungsanlagen, unterteilt nach den Bauarten, Kabel für Ortsnetze und Kabel für grössere Entfernungen. DIN VDE 0891 Teil 6 enthalt Hinweise für die Verwendung. Sie gilt nicht für Kabel, an deren Aufbau und Eigenschaften aus elektrischen oder mechanischen Gründen besondere Anforderungen gestellt werden müssen.
