This British Standard specifies materials, dimensions and constructional and electrical safety requirements for patient trolleys, which may be supplied in four basic forms: with fixed top (see figure1) with tilting top (see figure2) without top (for stretcher carrying) (see figure3) with sliding top (for patient transfer) (see figure4) At the option of the purchaser, patient trolleys may also be supplied with: a fixed cradle or support to hold a 340 litre, 680 litre or 1360 litre oxygen cylinder; a detachable pole for carrying infusion containers; a fixed tray for carrying case notes, instruments, suction apparatus, etc.; safety sides; a foot-rest/head-rest; a control for tilt (head down); an adjustable backrest; a radio-translucent top with provision for cassette; a mattress pad. Information that should be supplied by the purchaser with an enquiry or order is given in appendix A.
