Establishes a procedure for determining the mass percentage of sulfated ash from unused lubricating oils which contain additives and from additive concentrates used in compounding. The additives normally contain one of the following: barium, calcium, magnesium, zinc, potassium, sodium and tin, together with combinations of sulfur, phosphorus and chlorine.
