Determines the amount of constituents in petroleum products for saponification under test conditions. As sulfur compounds, phosphorus, halogens and certain other elements added to petroleum also comsume alkali and acids, the results give indications of the effects of these extraneous materials, together with saponifiable material. Results on used internal-combustion-engine crank-case oils containing these materials should be interpreted in this respect.
