Specifies requirements, additional to those in AS 1418.1, for special purpose appliances of the general platform hoist and tip truck hoisting system types. Appendices provide guidance on information to be supplied with enquiry, order, tender or request for hire, statutory approval, commissioning, inspecting and operation, and use of platform hoists.

This Standard sets out requirements for special purpose applicances used for the hoisting of loads and personnel, as defined in AS 2549, but does not apply to builders hoists (AS 1418.7), guided storing and retrieving appliances (AS 1418.6), and vehicle hoists (AS 1418.9).NOTES:1. Guidance on information to be supplied with enquiry, order, tender or request for hire is given in Appendix A.2. Guidance on selection and operation of special purpose appliances is given in AS 2550.8.
