Defines character formation and parity for parallel-by-bit, serial-by-character data communication in the ANSI X3.4-1968 (ASCII), and the codes used when applying the American National Standard Code Extension Techniques for Use with the 7-Bit Coded Character Set of ASCII X3.1974. Applies to general data interchange at the interface between data processing terminal equipment and data communication equipment.
