This document provides the technical basis for pH ranges suggested for landspreading, onsite burial and roadspreading of wastes from exploration and production (E & P). Basic chemistry related to pH is reviewed and the effect of soil pH on plants and soil fertility is summarized from a review of the literature. pH analyses of samples collected in a survey of E & P wastes are presented as well as the waste treatment requirements and calculations for pH adjustment of liquid and solid E & P wastes. Sample preparation and methods for determining pH as well as acid and lime requirements are included in the appendices.
