This standard is applicable to heat shrinkable medium voltage moulded shapes in a range ofconfigurations suitable for insulation, environmental sealing, mechanical protection, strain relief forpower cable terminations, joints and stop ends. These moulded shapes have been found suitablefor use for temperatures between -40ºC and 100ºC.The moulded shapes may be supplied with a pre-coated adhesive. A guide to adhesivecompatibility and temperature performance is given in Appendix A. Refer to themanufacturers/suppliers for options.Materials which conform to this specification meet established levels of performance. However, theselection of a material by a user for a specific application should be based on the actualrequirements necessary for adequate performance in that application and not based on thisspecification alone.The tests specified are designed to control the quality of the moulded shapes but it is recognizedthat they are designed to be used in low and medium voltage cable accessories and as suchelectrical performance must be proven as part of the assembly. Examples of this are described inEN50393, HD 629 and IEC 60502.
