Discusses the requirements in clause 3.5.2 of BS 5500 for the design of ellipsoidal and torispherical domed ends. The method of calculating the thickness of the end is the result of theoretical and experimental work carried out over more than half a century in different parts of the world and it is accurate, reliable and simple to apply.
