Applies to composite string insulator units for a.c. overhead lines having a nominal voltage more than 1000 V together with a frequency not in excess of 100 Hz. Also applicable to similarly-designed insulators for use in substations or on electric traction lines. Defines specific values for mechanical characteristics of the composite string insulator units and specifies main dimensions of the couplings for use on the composite string insulator units so as to allow the assembly of insulators or fittings provided by different manufacturers, and to permit, whenever practical, interchangeability with existing installations. In addition, it specifies a standard designation system for composite string insulator units.
