A direct positioning system identifying the location of points in relation to the Earth by coordinates. The most common system used is the geodetic reference system. Others exist, but are mainly used locally. Defines the basic concepts related to coordinate position information and gives the necessary guidance for use of the geodetic systems for geographic information.
