Diese Norm gilt für Ausdehnungsgefässe in wärmetechnischen Anlagen, mit deren Hilfe Volumenänderungen flüssiger Medien ausgeglichen werden sollen. Unter flüssigen Medien versteht man in diesem Zusammenhang: Wasser und Gemische aus Wasser mit Frostschutzmitteln (z. B. in Kaltwassersätzen, Solaranlagen). Sie schafft die begrifflichen Grundlagen für die übrigen Teile dieser Normenreihe, beschreibt die Zusammenhänge mit den einschlägigen gesetzlichen Vorschriften und enthält Angaben über Prüfung und Kennzeichnung.
