ERGONOMICS OF THE THERMAL ENVIRONMENT - ESTIMATION OF THE THERMAL INSULATION AND EVAPORATIVE RESISTANCE OF A CLOTHING ENSEMBLE
16-07-2004
23-11-2012
1. Scope
2. Principles and general definitions
3. Estimation of the thermal insulation of a clothing
ensemble based on tables with values measured on
standing thermal manikin
4. Estimation of the clothing area factor
5. Influence of body movements and wind on the thermal
insulation of a clothing ensemble
6. Estimation of the evaporative resistance
Annexes
A. Thermal insulation values for clothing ensembles
B. Thermal insulation values for individual garments
C. Measurement of the thermal insulation of clothing
on a thermal manikin
D. Measurement of the thermal insulation of clothing
on a thermal manikin
E. Different expressions for the thermal insulation
of clothing
F. Evaporative resistance of a clothing ensemble
Specifies methods for estimating the thermal characteristics in steady-state conditions for a clothing ensemble based on values for known garments, ensembles and textiles. Also discusses the influence of body movement and air penetration on the thermal insulation and evaporative resistance. Does not consider: the influence of rain and snow on the thermal characteristics; special protective clothing; the separate insulation on different parts of the body and discomfort due to the asymmetry of a clothing ensemble.
