Describes determination of light transmittance of toluene extract from carbon black for use in rubber manufacture to measure the discoloration caused by the extracted matter for product evaluation. The degree of discoloration is quantitatively measured using a spectrometer. Not applicable to carbon blacks with high toluene extracts.
