Railway Infrastructure - Railway Level Crossing
27-10-2020
01-01-2012
The objective of this standard is to provide the Australian Rail Industry with a set of mandatory and recommended requirements to be used to control level crossing risks, and to promote a consistent treatment of Australian level crossings. This Standard is intended to:- Provide a uniform basis for compliance with AS 4292;- Be able to cover differing rail operations across Australia; and- Identify the risks (hazards) being controlled. This standard applies to level crossings as defined in clause 1.9.9 of this standard, as limited by Clauses 1.5.2 and 1.6.This standard provides the minimum level crossing requirements, but is not intended to supplant higher performance standards based on local experience and good engineering practice, which may be contained in the level crossing standards, codes, guidelines and procedures of individual States or rail transport operators. Please note that this product is available in Excel format only. The Excel format allows users to more easily edit and comply with the standard, especially when working in the field. The decision to use Excel was based on much discussion and valuable feedback from customers of RISSB Australian Standards.
