Diese ÖVE/ÖNORM gilt für die Reduzierung nachteiliger UMWELTAUSWIRKUNGEN von MEDIZINISCHEN ELEKTRISCHEN GERÄTEN, nachfolgend als ME-GERÄTE bezeichnet. MEDIZINISCHE ELEKTRISCHE SYSTEME sind vom Anwendungsbereich dieser Ergänzungsnorm ausgenommen. Zweck dieser Ergänzungsnorm ist es, zusätzlich zu den Anforderungen in den Allgemeinen Festlegungen, allgemeine Anforderungen zur Reduzierung nachteiliger UMWELTAUSWIRKUNGEN von ME-GERÄTEN zu benennen und als Grundlage für Besondere Festlegungen zu dienen.
