La présente Norme internationale spécifie les équipements et les modes opératoires d'essai à utiliser pour déterminer les performances des équipement de numérisation et de décodage des codes à barres. Elle traite des équipements de numérisation et de décodage tant comme systèmes de lecture intégrés que comme unités discrètes. Elle définit les performances des équipements dans une configuration particulière (par exemple un mode spécifique) quels que soient les composants individuels utilisés. Elle définit également, dans une annexe normative, les paramètres de fonctionnement des équipements d'essai et décrit, dans une annexe informative, un moyen de classification des scanners.
