This part of the Handbook provides guidance on the preparation and application of fire tests, and sets out requirements for the format in individual fire test methods and fire test Standards. It considers-(a) selection and application of fire tests;(b) adoption of acceptable terminology with respect to fire tests; (c) expression of tests results;(d) preparation of fire test procedures; and(e) format of fire test methods. This publication applies to fire test methods prepared either as separate Australian Standards or as appendices to product Standards, and includes relevant drafting details. The required presentation is aimed at facilitating the indexing and referencing of test methods, both in Australian Standards and in regulations, to clarify the applicability of fire test methods for the assessment of fire hazard. It is recognized that the variations in form and application of Standards are such that some discretion in presentation may be justifiable in certain circumstances, and appropriate provisions are made in this regard.NOTE: Appendix A provides an example of the factors that might need to be considered in determining the fire hazard properties of a particular product (the example used is cellular polystyrene tiles).
