Details of proposed software management generic needs applicable to a Network Element (NE) or a Network System (NS). Configuration Management is one of the five functional categories of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) management as detailed in ITU-T Rec.X 730 ISO/IEC 10164-1. Software Management, a subset of the Configuration Management category, is an ongoing network management activity that assists telecommunications carriers in assuring that the correct versions of software are sent, downloaded, installed, verified and remotely activated in NEs. Software Management functional needs previously defined in Section 6.7 of GR 472 CORE, along with related needs from GR 2933 CORE, were joined to form this document. Resulting in a consistent integrated set of needs applying to all classes of NEs.
