Applicable to an Element Management Systems (EMSs) that manages Synchronous Optical Network (SONET), Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) and/or hybrid SONET/ATM transport network elements. Functionality addressed by the needs includes Configuration Management, Fault Management, Performance Management, Security Management, Accounting Management and Common Operations Management. Functions relevant are identified at a high level. Broadens the scope of network technologies and architectures, including enhanced functionality for management of network connection protection.
