Proposes requirements for personal flotation devices designed for use in supervised situations to assist flotation during short-term immersion in sheltered waters during daylight hours, and also intended for use in water sports or as clothing for special situations where assistance is immediately at hand. Proposed changes include an alignment of upper body mass ranges and their buoyancy requirements with those used in the corresponding New Zealand Standard (NZS 5823: Buoyancy aids and marine safety harnesses and lines). Appendices include comparative test methods for adequately supporting the wearer in water.
