Die Kabel sind für trockene und feuchte Betriebsstätten, jedoch nicht für Erdverlegung zugelassen. Diese Norm gilt nicht für faseroptische Elemente der Licht- und Bildübertragung. Zweck dieser Norm ist die Festlegung einheitlicher Anforderungen an den Aufbau, die Masse, die optischen, die übertragungstechnischen, die mechanischen und die Umwelteigenschaften von Lichtwellenleiter-Innenkabeln sowie die Festlegung der entsprechenden Prüfungen.
