Describes the selection of thermoplastics pipe systems for particular applications and with the general principles applicable to all such systems. The use of plastics pipes in services supplied from the mains of water undertakings is governed by the byelaws of the undertakings and these shall be strictly observed. Although pipes of polyethylene are not easily fractured by freezing, the flow of water may be stopped, and therefore precautions should be taken as for pipes of other materials. Covers definitions, materials available, hydraulic characteristics, handling and storage, thermal effects, environment, long-term behaviour under hydraulic pressure and more.
