This technical report gives guidance on the choice of voltage levels within Band I, as defined in IEC 449, for conductive parts that may be touched by human beings in various applications and environmental situations under both normal and fault conditions.
Technical committees may choose limit values other than those given in this report if, after taking into account the significant factors, it is shown by experience that an appropriate level of safety is achieved. Voltage levels for patient contact in medical applications are not covered by this report.
This report does not include any reference to insulation systems or to methods of protection. The conventional touch voltage limit as defined in IEC 50: Chapter 826 for the purpose of automatic disconnection of the supply is not within the scope of this report.
