Intertek Inform and ASME Announce Multi-Year Agreement
Setting global engineering ASME Standards
ASME which stands for The American Society of Mechanical Engineers was formed off the back of advancements in machinery and industrialisation in the late nineteeth century. It was one of the first independent non-government organisations that provided steel engineers, innovators and machine builders a space to discuss Standards for tools, technical parts and best practises.
One of ASME’s most significant and widely recognized publications is the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC), first issued in 1915. The BPVC has been instrumental in advancing safety and has been adopted into legislation across most U.S. states.
Popular ASME Standards
In addition to standards for boiler and pressure vessels, ASME standards are integral to a wide range of industries, including energy, manufacturing, and mechanical engineering. These widely adopted standards address critical areas such as design, safety, and compliance. For example, ASME Y14.5 establishes the design language for geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, ASME B16.5 sets requirements for pipe flanges and flanged fittings to ensure piping safety, and ASME B36.10M specifies dimensions for welded and seamless wrought steel pipe used in both high- and low-pressure applications. Across all codes, standards, and practices, ASME’s central focus remains consistent: advancing safety, improving efficiency, and enabling global compliance.
Why is ASME and why are ASME Standards important?
In today’s rapidly evolving landscape, shaped by advancements in AI and emerging technologies, ASME’s mission of advancing engineering for the benefit of humanity is more relevant than ever. ASME standards play a vital role in addressing global challenges such as sustainability, clean energy, efficient housing and transportation, public safety, and healthcare. At their core, these Standards are designed to safeguard communities, support innovation, and enhance quality of life worldwide. Through Standards solutions and services, ASME continues to empower engineers across disciplines, from pressure technology and robotics to energy and bioengineering, driving progress that meets both current and future needs.
