As the name suggests, AS 1530.1 is a combustibility test that gauges whether a product or material contributes to fire spread. If the material is said to be not AS1530.1 compliant, then it is labelled as a combustible product. 


AS/NZS 1530.3: Reaction to Fire Performance

AS/NZS 1530.3​ sets out a test method for assessing building materials and components according to their tendency to ignite, propagate flame, release smoke, and the heat it releases once ignition has occurred.

The objective of this Standard is to establish a test method for assessing the potential fire hazard of wall linings during the early growth of fire in a compartment. 


AS 1530.4: Fire Resistance Testing

AS 1530.4 concerns testing the tensile strength and containment of construction components exposed to fire. This standard outlines the methods for conducting fire resistance tests on building components such as walls, floors, doors, ceilings, columns, and beams.


Australian Standard AS 1530.4 defines Fire Resistance Level (FRL) as structural adequacy, integrity, and insulation measured in minutes. So, for example, a wall with a FRL of (90/90/90) means that:


structural adequacy = 90 minutes


integrity = 90 minutes


insulation = 90 minutes

AS 1530 Part 1 provides a basic level of fire performance information for initial material selection and covers whether or not a material is considered combustible.
