About the Standardization Administration of China
The Standardization Administration of China (SAC) was set up by the Chinese State Council to streamline management, supervision and overall coordination of standardisation work in China.
The SAC approves, delivers and publishes national Standards plans. The body also produces and releases standardisation policies, administrative rules and industry programs. It is responsible for informing the public about national Standards, and represents China within international Standards organisations, including the ISO and IEC.

Below are some of the most common questions about the Standardization Administration of China.
The SAC was established in April 2001. Authorised by the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, the SAC sits under the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR). It is the central administrative body responsible for setting national Standards across China.
The body has four main functions.
- To organise, coordinate and supervise the implementation of national Standards.
- To administer and direct matters relating to research, promotion, education and training works.
- To represent China in regional and international standardization organisations, including the ISO.
- To publicise and promote China’s national Standards.
The organisation covers a wide range of Standards including building standards, food safety standards and environmental standards.
The SAC is a government body. Its leadership team is made up of a SAC Administrator, a Director-General of Standards Technical Management Department and a Director-General of Standards Innovative Management Department. The SAC is located in Haidian District, Beijing, China.
