As a national centre for Standardisation, the Japanese Standards Association Group (JSA Group) works to develop draft Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) in various fields.
The JSA Group conducts surveys and research into Standardisation, while investigating and studying the application and practical aspects of quality engineering (Taguchi Methods), data analysis methods, and techniques used to boost reliability and motivation.
It also helps speed up the development of Standards for domestic mainstay and small-to-medium sized companies wanting to create Standards for new markets.

The JSA Group is a non-governmental certification board. The goal of the organisation is to educate about the Standardisation and unification of industrial Standards, in turn contributing to the improvement of technology and the enhancement of production efficiency.
As well as developing domestic Standards, the JSA Group imports and distributes international Standards (ISO and IEC) and national Standards (ANSI, BSI and others), along with Standards developed by other Standardising bodies such as ASME and ASTM.
The JSA Group has a significant focus on research and development, developing quality assessment models and rules for the drafting and presentation of Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS). JIS sets the Standards used for industrial activities across Japan.
It carries out extensive surveys and research into Standardisation areas:
- Basic and common fields like units and graphical symbols.
- Networking and software applications in the IT field.
- Management systems.
- Consumer protection.
The group also works to develop common multinational Standards, contributing to Standardisation activities in China, Korea and Japan.
The non-government JSA Group is made up of three bodies: Group Management and Public Relations, Standards Development and Standardisation Promotion. It is governed by a president/CEO/representative executive officer, an executive vice president, an executive director and auditor.
